This song was inspired by the movie "A Time to Kill" as well as what's going on in the world today. Out of all my lyrics, these are the ones I'm most proud of. I've sent them to a few songwriters. Maybe someday someone will record this song. ;)
Verse 1:
A precious bundle of joy, born in naivete
Sheltered, protected, innocent
Unaware that life can be so ugly
Verse 2:
One day we emerge
Faced with real life
See the horror on the news
A man killed his wife with a butcher knife
Verse 3:
Who learns to hate like this?
Why does a warm heart turn cold?
When does the innocence die?
Where will I turn when I grow old?
Chorus:
In a perfect world, there would be no heartbreak
No hunger and no fears
No loved ones for God to take
In a perfect world
AIDS wouldn't be a killer
Cancer wouldn't leave its mark
No one would be left
Crying in the dark
Verse 4:
We watch the violence on TV
Live in crime-ridden streets
Why is it so hard to be kind?
To do just one good deed
Verse 5:
A child found dead in an alley
The elderly victimized in their homes
Why can't we stop this insanity
Is it towards violence that we are prone?
Chorus 2:
In a perfect world, there would be no illness
No disease and no tears
No men who rape women
No one would live in fear
In a perfect world
Guns would be banned
Terrorism never heard of
We'd remember we're God's children
And we'd all join hands
Bridge (fade out)
In a perfect world...
