I was inspired to write this song while working on "Still Waters Run Deep." The song is supposed to be meaningful for Nick and Kevin's characters. I never used the song in the story, although that was my intention when I wrote it.
Verse 1:
No one has ever shown me
How love is meant to be
No one has ever taken the time
To probe inside my mind
Verse 2:
I walk this life alone
Amid sorrow and despair
Wishing I were strong, courageous
Without a heart that cares
Chorus:
If only you really knew
The love I hold for you
The goodness of my heart
The warmth of my embrace
A gentle touch of the lips
That leaves a lingering taste
Life offers us many chances
We grasp and seize them all
We go on searching for perfection
Does it indeed exist at all?
It's not physical, emotional or tangible
Perfection is love, pure love
A gift so precious, so rare
Verse 3:
I was once a solitary figure
Teetering on Earth's edge
But God's hands pulled me back
He said, "Listen to your heart instead."
Verse 4:
Now I come to you
Without pretense nor facade
How can you say those words to me?
Your eyes so filled with hate
Bridge:
Oh why do you ignore me?
Hurt me with your glare
Don't you know I'd die for you,
Do you even care?
Repeat Chorus and fade...
