Rosh 1 Israel - Here Comes Nick

Before I even left Israel I was told that I had to talk to Nick Carter. It didn't matter how, why or how much: "Just contact him", they explained to me, and no excuses will be made.Well, the moment the guy finished presenting his award with Rachel Roberts, the star of the movie "Simone", and went backstage, I jumped on him, stopping a Scandinavian reporter from getting to him and blocking a reporter from the far east.

In answer to my question about what's going on with the Backstreet Boys, the rumors that are flying around about the band's split and him leaving the band, Nick declared that it's too early to bury the Boys. "My new album doesn't mark the end of the Backstreet Boys. I was a part of the band for 10 years, from the age of 12. Today I'm 22, and that's why the band is kind of my life. I just decided to take advantage of the time while the other guys are doing other things, like having kids and getting married, to record my own solo album. It's something I really wanted to do for my soul."

What do you prefer, the Backstreet Boys' pop music or the rockier style you're doing?
"When you listen to my music, you can feel that it's honest, because I hate being fake. I grew up on rock music and that's also what I brought to the band -- something more rough vocally."

And how does it feel to be a rocker?
"It's just the begining. Right now I'm learning and experiencing new things. I'm a new rock artist, it's a fact, and I've still got more to learn and do."

You said you hate being fake. So does that mean the Backstreet Boys, for you, are fake?
"No, Backstreet Boys is a vocal harmony group. We're good at the harmony of five voices, it's our expertise. In the begining we sang a cappella and just added music to it. I don't think it's fake, because just look at how much time the band survived and still survives. "But, as I said, what I want to do now is become a more varied artist. I've been playing the drums since I was 12 and now I play the guitar as well, so what I'm doing now is something that is totally different from what I did with the Boys. But I love music, and as long as it comes from your soul and you're doing it real, it will be something real."
