N: Yeah...we just got done performing A: how'd that go for ya?? N: it went really good...I mean it was uh, a sold out crowd and uh, and it was, actually we were taping for a CBS special. I was 12, going on 13 D: wow N: i've been in the group for...8 years now A: how long was the band together before the cut their first cd?? N: uh, before we dropped our first cd in America we were around for like, 3 years, over in Europe A: ohhh, you started in Europe??? N: yeah A: I didn't know that N: yeah we started over in Europe actually about around the time ummm...Snoop dropped Doggystyle and uh, Nirvana uh ya know, had Nevermind out A: and did you guys, you were touring over in Europe at 14, 15 years old??? N: yup A: and were you...polishing your, ya know, honing your skills, polishing your act in Europe??? I mean was that the plan?? Go to Europe and work out all the kinks?? N: i don't think, I mean i guess, it actually turned out to be that but then ya know, in the beginning, basically what it was, ya know America just wasnt ready for a, a 5 guy white group, ya know A: right N: just, ya know, nkotb had just ya know had all that big controversial stuff, right around that time A: right. well, well, there was a lil, nkotb was real hot in the uh, early 90s, early 90s right?? (Nick agrees) and then they went away and then the there was a lil uh, boyband backlash, which was uh, done with that, lets here some Nirvana and Soundgarden. N: yeah A: and, uh, all that good stuff, and then uh, then people calmed down for awhile and then the bands made their way back N: yeah, see we came out with uh, uh, who dropped around the same time we did?? Spice Girls did, Hanson did A: right N: and it was uh, us actually, uh, we were a lil bit before the Spice Girls and uh, we were a lil pissed, mad, mad because ya know, the Spice Girls had dropped two singles and they did really good and uh, we were doing nothing at all and they had just came in and uh, we had been there, uh, forever and then they came in, milked the market and left. A: these, BSB, weren't guys you, uh went to junior high with, I mean you were recruited right??? N: nah, actually, well two of the guys Kevin and Brian are cousins they've known each other their whole lives and, uh, me, AJ, and uh, Howie we knew each other actually, even a lil before 8 years. The groups actually been together for 8 years but uh, me, AJ, and Howie, we knew each other like 2 years before that. A: ohh, you did N: yeah, AJ actually knew Howie even, uh, 6 years before that A: I always just thought everyone was recruited N: nah, we knew each other D: we interviewed 98 Degrees, remember??? A: yeah D: and they were talking about how they basically all were pages at Universal Studios A: Well the thing is NSYNC were recruited, weren't they?? D: they were just recruited, I mean they were from all over the country. N: really?? (Laughs) D: yeah N: yeah A: yeah, you dont like them, you cant talk about them right?? N: where do I live? I still live in, I still have a place in Tampa A: and do you like doing all the touring??? I mean, do you like the lifestyle?? N: I love it. We haven't been touring in about a year...since the Millenium tour and now, uh, we're doing the Black and Blue tour and its going good, we're having fun, I mean we're up there just giving it all and... A: and when do you go to Europe?? N:Uh,, ohh, we go to Europe like sometime, uh, I dunno, sometime like, late summer?? A: and what do you, you're gonna do some producing, or managing?? N: Yeah, I've actually been producing, ya know co-managing a group, a band, actually managing til they get picked up. A: Born Into Kaos N: yeah, thats my band, from Tampa, my best friends in the band, ya know A: can't you just force them to be picked up?? N: nah, ahh, uh, its, ya know, I thought it was gonna be that easy but, ya know, its not, ya know its, you gotta, you gotta pay your dues no matter what, ya know, and I've come to find that out with these guys, ya know they've been together for about a year now and when I first, when they first got together, what it was, was my friend, um, my friend uh,Brent, he's one of the guys in the group, he a guitar player, ya know, I, I asked him to, ya know I said, what you wanna do, you wanna do something, ya know, see he was in a really low point in his life and everything and he, I said, what do you wanna do, ya know, get yourself together, and I said I suggested man, yua know cuz he liked to play guitar and everything, ya know, if you can, get your guitar skills, ya know, really, rolling and everything and you get a group together, ya know, I'll help you, I fund you, I'll help get you out on the air, help you tour and make records, ya know and i said, but you gotta want it and so thats what they're doing right now, ya know, ands I saw myself achieving, ya know, I've known this kid for a long time ya know, me and him just best buds and everything, and I'd saw myself, ya know achieving the dream that I, that I had wanted, my whole life and ya know, I just wanted him to do it too, ya know, so basically, I'm using my money, ya know, everything that I've had, I'm helping him out with his band. A: but you could get your label to pick them up, if you wanted to?? N: well I mean, dude I'll tell ya what, we've gone through songs and songs, and I've been like, ya know, guys...you gotta check out this band and ya know, they're gonna be doing something, ya know and um, people are starting to pick up on it a lil bit and ya know, our labels like ok, well, lets get them in the studio, lets do somemore demos and see what they sound like in a lil more time, I said, hey man, do it now, ya know, but umm, ya know you'd think it would be easy to do that, put them on our label or especially even Jive... A: wait, thats... N: see we have one. A: I understand fully because on a much lesser scale people come up to me and say, hey can you get me one of those man show tshirts, and I go, uh, I dont think they'll give me one and Drew goes, what? who are you kidding?? Its your show go get one and i go, I think they'll yell at me if I try to get one, so I understand sometimes.
