Subject: Backstreet Boys enthrall Delhi
Source: thaindian.com

American band Backstreet Boys maiden live performance in the capital Saturday was a treat for their fans, who danced and screamed along their way, making sure that they enjoyed every bit of their favourite band. Though fans had to wait a bit longer, but once the band came on stage, they enthralled the audience and took them back the memory lane to the early 90s when the group was at its peak. Backstreet Boys was performing at the annual Romanov Red Rock ‘N India music festival at NSIC ground in Okhla, where South African band Prime Circle & Jayce Lewis and Indian rock bands Indigo Children, Five Little Indians and Swarathma also performed. Dressed in black and white clothes, the group started their performance with their hit song “Everybody” accompanying it well with synchronizing dance moves. They mesmerised the audience with songs like “Quit Playing Games”, and “As Long As You Love Me”, among others, leaving audience screaming and shouting with joy, asking for more. Formed in 1993, the pop band was made up of A.J. McLean, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, Nick Carter and Kevin Richardson. Later in 2006, Richardson left the group to pursue other interests. During their performance, McLean kept clicking pictures of the audience and told them to check their website to have a look at them. When the band asked the audience if they want them to come back to India again and the crowd replied in one voice “Yes, We want you back”.

Sarah was born with a neural tube defect called spina bifida that occurs when the spinal column fails to close completely, resulting in spinal cord nerve damage. The condition has left Sarah confined to a wheelchair. In addition, she has hydrocephalus, which causes fluid to build up around her brain. She has had two shunt procedures to drain the excess fluid, in addition to more than a dozen other surgeries. Sarah also suffers from chiari malformation, a neurological condition that causes compression of the spinal cord and brainstem at the base of the skull. Sarah is a major fan of the Backstreet Boys! Meeting the band in person was truly a dream come true for this special girl. During her time in L.A., Sarah not only got to watch the guys rehearse, she also met them each personally. It was definitely a day Sarah will remember forever!

Subject: Backstreet Boy AJ McLean Proposes on Stage
Source: people.com
Thanks: Kayla
AJ McLean is now officially off the market. While celebrating his 32nd birthday in Las Vegas on Friday night, the Backstreet Boy vocalist proposed to his girlfriend Rochelle Deanna Karidis on the stage of Hard Rock Hotel's Wasted Space nightclub. "He got up on stage and the DJ turned the music off. He asked her to come up on stage and he got down on his knee and she quatted down with him," an eyewitness tells PEOPLE. "He asked her and she said yes and hugged him. He took the ring out of his pocket and put it on her hand. She seemed very surprised and didn't seem to know why he was getting on stage," the witness adds. "Even his friends were shocked. They all knew he was going to propose but didn't think he would do it tonight." McLean, a source tells PEOPLE, purchased the engagement ring just a few hours before the public proposal at Hard Rock Hotel's jewelry store, Rocks. Aside from his friends, the club was filled with patrons in Las Vegas for the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo convention. The club was hosting a party for the website "Naughty America" when McLean proposed just after midnight. More pictures here. Click on AJ.

Source: cbsnews.com

Although they return to The Early Show as men, the band members are revisiting the pop roots that first brought them to international superstardom, a genre they know best and have mastered for more than 16 years. The band, known for their hits, "Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)," "I Want It That Way" "Larger Than Life," and "Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely," will perform live on "The Early Show" on Jan. 18, then thrill their loyal fans with a meet-and-greet session. The Backstreet Boys, made up of AJ McLean, Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough and Nick Carter (former BSB band member, Kevin Richardson left the band in 2006 to start a family) are still performing with the same undying enthusiasm that they had as boys. Their latest album, "THIS IS US," reflects exactly what it says. "This record here...we reached back into what made us who we are - that’s great pop melodies, great harmonies - and made it current and relevant," Howie Dorough said on the band's official Web site. "We made a conscious effort to go back to being ourselves," added Brian Littrell. "It’s important for the fans to remember what was, but it’s also important for them to know where we’re headed." The band released, "Unbreakable," in 2007 and "Never Gone," in 2005, which produced the hit "Incomplete," marking a solid spot for them in the adult-contemporary genre. Over a decade ago, their self-titled debut landed them in the center of the boy band phenomenon. Recently BSB was in Copenhagen for the United Nations' climate conference, where they promoted green issues and performed for a concert backed by the European Commission's "Play to Stop: Europe for Climate campaign." Subject: Westlife have nabbed a power ballad from Leona Lewis for their new album
Source: dailystar.co.uk
Thanks: Sarah
WESTLIFE have nabbed a power ballad from Leona Lewis for their new album. Label boss Simon Cowell, 50, loved the song Shadows – penned by Backstreet Boys star AJ McLean and OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, 31 – so much he whipped away the tune for the boyband. Excited AJ told me: “Ryan and I wrote the song for the new Backstreet album, but it didn’t make it. “When Simon heard it he loved it, and initially wanted it to go on the Leona record. Then he decided as it was more of a boyband song it’d suit Westlife better.” Backstreet are back themselves with album This Is Us and a UK tour in November, kicking off in Newcastle on the 3rd. Westlife drop their new long-player on November 30 and first single What About Now on Monday. AJ, 31, said: “I’m a Simon Cowell fan. At one point he was saying he was such a big fan of us that he spoke to the American Idol producers about doing a show with all the hits of Backstreet Boys.” Backstreet are confident their new opus, which features tunes by Lady GaGa collaborator RedOne, puts them back on the map. Brian Littrell, 34, said: “Some people wanna put you in a box of what was, and not really grow with you. All we want to do is make great music that we are happy with. “When you stick a brand name like BSB on a song, sometimes you put a limit on it because people think it’s going to be boyband crap.” Backstreet have also been keeping an eye on 35-year-old Robbie Williams’ comeback Bodies. Brian revealed: “We are big fans of Robbie. It’s a great song.”

The band were forced to axe their appearances last week (the same week they released new album 'This Is Us'), and Brian admits he was "pretty freaked out," when he was diagnosed. Littrell added to In Touch: "We had to cancel a bunch of press. It was disappointing. I had to stay in New York and was confined to my hotel room. They all left me and went to LA. Source: nt2099.com

Backstreet’s Back once again with their 7th full-length album, “This is Us” and this time, they were brave and experimented with a brand new sound. This is the second album with only four members, since Kevin Richardson left the group in 2006 and they are showing that they can still stand strong as a group. Just like in their last album, “Unbreakable”, you get to hear a lot more solo voices from all four members as well as their trademark harmonies. This album is the first time they have tried something completely new instead of their usual formula of having an album with a majority of mid-tempo songs, some ballads, and a couple of fast-tempo dance songs. They didn’t completely depart from their pop sound, but this time around they tried their hand at techno pop and some R&B influenced pop songs. In this album, they collaborated with big names like Max Martin (who they have collaborated with many times in the past), T-Pain, Ryan Tedder, RedOne and quite a few others. Experimenting with different sounds can prove risky with pop music but I think this will prove to be a hit with fans and for those new to the Backstreet Boys. Straight Through My Heart is the upbeat first single from this album and is a glimpse of how the rest of the album sounds. Bigger is a track produced by Max Martin, and incorporates the new sound while keeping the nostalgic BSB sound that fans love. Bye Bye Love is a song with a catchy beat and a great pop sound. All of Your Life (You Need Love) is one of the most techno influenced songs on the album and is a great pop song with a great beat. If I Knew Then is a mid-tempo R&B with a very interesting flow of lyrics. This is Us is another R&B influenced song on the album. It is a nice mid-tempo ballad and one of my favorites on the album. PDA is a fun song with some interesting lyrics and a slight carnival sound incorporated into it. It’s one of the more different songs on the album. Masquerade is a high tempo R&B dance number that fans can expect some great choreography to. She’s a Dream is another very interesting song on the album with writing credits that go to all the Boys as well as T-Pain. Shattered is a wonderful ballad that has a similar feel to “Unmistakable” from their last album, “Unbreakable”. Undone is a nice mid-tempo song and a great way to close the album.

Back in the day, the Backstreet Boys blazed the boy band trail. Nick Carter and his 4 bandmates faced crowds of screaming teen girls (kind of like the swarms of ladies who follow Robert Pattinson's every move today) and sold over 100 million albums. But, the musicians eventually got brushed aside and fell out of the spotlight. A couple rehab trips, babies, and break-ups later, Howie Dorough claims the band's 7th album This is Us is going to put them back on the map. And, if not, they're touring the map, anyway. The Backstreet Boys just released their 7th album. The group of 4 will go on the road at the end of the month (Kevin Richardson left the group a few years ago to start a family) and they've all apparently grown up a lot since hits like "I'll Never Break Your Heart" from the late '90s. It's probably about time, but we'll always have a soft spot for those 6th grade dance memories they made for us. Dorough said in a Reuters interview, "We have grown into the adults we are now -- the fathers, the friends, the entertainers that we are now and the career minded people that we are." Despite claiming they're not the same girl-crazed music makers they once were, they're still fine with being called "boys." "Backstreet Men" does sound a little off, for sure. Dorough said: "Boys to us has never been an age thing. If the Beastie Boys and the Beach Boys and Pet Shop Boys can stay boys, so can we." The album debuted last week at #10 on the US charts.

Subject: Backstreet Boys - This is Us Review
    Source: entertainment-focus.com
    Thanks: Sofia
Those Backstreet Boys don’t give up easily do they? Despite not exactly setting the world alight with their comeback, they are still trying to resurrect the career they once had. Last album Unbreakable sold moderately but was nowhere near the sales the band enjoyed at their peak. Undeterred the Backstreet Boys are back with their seventh studio album This Is Us and do you know what? It’s actually rather good. After failing to find the tempo on recent albums, the boys experiment with more uptempo songs on this record and keep the ballads to a minimum. With a leaning towards pop and R&B, the band has worked with RedOne, Soulshock and Karlin, Claude Kelly, T-Pain, Kevin Borg and long-time collaborator Max Martin. The album’s lead single, Straight Through My Heart, was the first fruits of their collaboration with RedOne and bridges the gap between their previous album and this one. The song is decent enough but there are better tracks on This Is Us. The guitar-driven Bigger sounds like a smash hit in waiting and was made for radio, Bye Bye Love sounds a little like Ne-Yo’s Closer and the title track takes contemporary chunky R&B beats for a song that is sure to become a favourite at the band’s live shows. The Backstreet Boys shine best when they stick to the uptempo numbers. PDA is one of the strongest songs on the record and is a fantastic club track, Undone sounds like a tribute to Michael Jackson (which we love!) and If I Knew Then is a pulsating, electro-R&B track that is sure to be a future single. The best moment on the album is reserved for All Of Your Life (You Need Love). The song is a storming classic pop song with contemporary beats piled on it. The band’s harmonies sound fantastic and as per usual they share the lead vocals. This Is Us is an unexpected return to form for the Backstreet Boys. The record is the best that they’ve released in years and we were taken by surprise. Perhaps there is still life in the band yet. If Nick Carter could stop comparing them to The Rolling Stones, the Backstreet Boys could be one step closer to regaining their popularity. Job well done.

The European Commission and MTV Networks International announced today the artist for the third and final concert of the "Play to Stop – Europe for Climate" campaign: Backstreet Boys. The band will play on 7 December in Copenhagen in front of hundreds of young people, coinciding with the opening day of the United Nations Climate Change Conference. "I hope the world leaders will reach a fair and ambitious global agreement that will put us firmly on the path of sustainable development. We owe it to our children and generations to come", said Vice-President of the European Commission Margot Wallström. Launched in July 2009, "Play to Stop" targets 11 EU Member States and features TV spots, webcasts, games, and editorial content about the fight against climate change as well as three concerts with major international artists. Following concerts by Moby in Stockholm on 20 August and Editors in Budapest on 19 September, the last concert of “Play to Stop” will feature Backstreet Boys. The campaign is aimed at raising awareness among young people about the dangers of climate change and the importance of having a European Union response to it in the run up to the UN Climate Change Conference. "No country will be spared by the effects of climate change, and future generations will be the worst affected," said Antonio Campo Dall'Orto, Executive Vice President of Music Brands for MTV Networks International. "That's why communicating the urgency of the problem and fighting behaviours that aggravate climate change is so fundamental for MTV. We are proud to support the work the EU is doing for the environment through this 'Play to stop - Europe for Climate' campaign." Throughout the campaign, young people are encouraged to exchange opinions about climate change and how to protect the environment on the “Play to Stop” website at mtvplay4climate.eu

Subject: The Backstreet Boys Will Release "This is Us" on October 6th; Sneak Peek Review
    Source: associatedcontent.com
    Thanks: Emilia
One of the most successful boy bands in history, The Backstreet Boys, will be releasing their 7th studio album on October 6th. Still only having the remaining four members of the original five, the band has refused to let the loss of one member stop them from doing what they do best. The Backstreet Boys Will Release "This is Us" on October 6th; Sneak Peek Review record This Is Us will feature the band returning to Max Martin, part of the reason their 1999 album Millennium was such a success and is dubbed some of their best work since that album 10 years ago. The Backstreet Boys has also joined forces with some of today's best producers, including Martin, RedOne who is responsible for Lady Gaga's first two singles, and Ryan Tedder who produced Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love" and is the frontman for OneRepublic. Opening with "Straight Through My Heart," the song produced by RedOne, The Backstreet Boys test a new water. Having a strong dance beat, "Straight Through My Heart" is an anthem of falling hard in love, bleeding open and unable to stop. The band may not be Lady Gaga, but the lead single is a departure from previous work and displays their ability to try and stay on top of current trends as they always have. Produced by Max Martin, "Bigger" is a layered synth mid-tempo ballad infused with some more rhythmic beats that can easily make the listener tap their foot along. It sounds like Martin slapped a vocoder on the guys' voices as well as they sing about a dedicated love who doesn't leave through thick and thin. "Bigger" has the potential to be a big hit if remixed for clubs or even a radio remix. The production is quite mellow for mainstream radio but adding a few more drum hits would make the song much more epic and able to fit in. However, "All of Your Love (You Need Love)" fulfills that notion more than perfectly. Slammed with some heavy synth leads and a pounding drum, The Backstreet Boys have indeed changed their sound on This Is Us without compromising their traditional R&B likeability. Having such production on the album is almost asking for the album to a bigger success for them as their previous record Unbreakable failed to take off. A Backstreet Boys album would not be complete with their heartfelt ballads. "Shattered" is just that. "Inside I'm so lost, In the middle of my heart, It's a battlefield of love, I've been fighting far too long," the song plays out into a painful chorus of being broken with soaring vocals. The Backstreet Boys Will Release "This is Us" on October 6th; Sneak Peek Review notes, displaying the band's maturity in their full grown voices since their beginnings back in 1995. The message and the vocal production of "Shattered" is hindered by a lacking backtrack that is just missing something to make it stand out. The mid-tempo ballad titled track "This Is Us" is another that is lacking something to make it pop compared to some of the album's first handful of songs. It seems the word masquerade is becoming popular as Kelly Clarkson originally titled her latest effort by that name and Ashley Tisdale included a song of the same name on her latest album. "Masquerade" takes a while to build and it's A.J. McLean's voice that stands out most on his segment of the song. Dancing through the night, removing any masks, they're asking their love to stay with them and show them the true colors with no holding back. One of the standout tracks comes at the very end. "Undone" consists of a haunting melody placed along a drum programming progression. While the relationship is burning out, feeling numb and not wanting to move on, the song insists they can fix things and be "undone." This Is Us by The Backstreet Boys is a great effort filled with ups and downs, ballads and hot beats and if marketed properly by their Jive label, can be a hit for the everlasting band. - C. Channing

The Backstreet Boys are back again, this time all grown up. With their new album 'This is Us' releasing soon, the boys...er I mean men say that they're glad that they're calling the shots this time. "For years, it was always the record company that was kind of running the ship," Backstreet Boy AJ McLean tells PopEater. "On this particular record, it was kind of us running our own lives for the very first time." Having said that, the band members had their own picks of who they would work with on the album instead of being told who they were going to work with. Band member Nick Carter called T-Pain, while the whole band called out to RedOne, Jim Jonsin and others. When tracks from the album were leaked online, the band were a little unsettled about it at first. "We were a little bit bummed about it, because we were trying to keep this whole record kind of a secret," says McLean. "But it actually turned out to be beneficial. When it first got leaked, we hadn't picked the actual final 12 tracks yet, so it was kind of cool to see what different fans liked. It was surprising what we thought they'd like and then what they really liked."

The Backstreet Boys have teamed-up with Lady Gaga producer RedOne to ensure their new album 'This Is Us' is a hit. Explaining why they chose to go with the 'Just Dance' and 'Paparazzi' writer, Nick Carter says: "We racked our brains to rediscover who we were. We had to do something different but still familiar. RedOne really wanted to be on our Black & Blue album – he said he studied us, and he's written songs tailor-made for Backstreet Boys." Carter also spoke of the forthcoming Backstreet Boys live dates which are in support of 'This Is Us'. He adds about touring: "We're spending more money and dancing more than ever and have worked really hard to come up with something which our peers can see and say to themselves: 'Wow, that was amazing.'"

The boys release their new single, “Straight Through My Heart (Soldier Down).” The powerful vocal group made up of Nick Carter, Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough and AJ McLean is ready to take over the airwaves again. The Backstreet Boys released their new single, "Straight Through My Heart (Soldier Down)," this week, via a live stream on their Web site. The track will be released to radio stations across the country July 27. Unlike the first singles off of the boys past two albums, this single is not a power ballad, but rather a track laced with a stinging uptempo beat. "Straight Through My Heart" was produced by hit maker RedOne, who has also produced tracks for Lady GaGa. The track is rather intense in the lyrics - mentioning bullets, bleeding, and being shot through the heart - all for love, of course. The Backstreet Boys are back, but they never really went anywhere. While some inaccurately label this as a "comeback," it certainly is not. The boys were out of the scene for about four years, but then regrouped in 2005 with the much anticipated, "Never Gone" record. The guys followed up that album with "Unbreakable" in 2007. "Straight Through My Heart" is the first single off of their seventh studio album, "This Is Us," due in stores October 6.

The Backstreet Boys are very proud to announce the release of their new album, This Is Us. Set for an October 6(th) release on Jive Records, This Is Us is the seventh studio album from this groundbreaking and chart topping group that redefined the modern musical landscape, ushering in a chapter of pop culture that commandeered the world’s radio airwaves, broke music and concert sales records, and launched a new generation of teen idols. Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell and AJ McLean collaborated with a powerhouse suite of producers and songwriters on This Is Us that included T-Pain, Max Martin, RedOne, Soulshock and Karlin, Jim Jonsin and Claude Kelly. The end result is an indelible and finely crafted R&B and pop album from four talented musicians who love what they do and who maintain the rare relevance in an industry that often disposes of pop acts. The 11 songs that make up This Is Us are the sounds of four skilled singers with a similar vision, who have dealt with the trials and tribulations that accompany fame at an early age and who came out as one of the most successful groups of all time. From the undeniable dance floor ready lead single, “Straight Through My Heart” to the reflective soar of “Bigger,” from the hook crazy “Bye Bye Love” to the romantic yearning of “She’s A Dream,” This Is Us shows remarkable growth as songwriters and continues to give us songs that has made millions smile. “We’re really excited to release this new album and know that our fans are excited too. We worked with a group of amazing artists and producers that we’ve never worked with before, exploring new sounds and territory and know the final product turned out incredible,” says Carter. The Backstreet Boys plan on spending the second half of 2009 and all of 2010 on the road. A European tour has already been announced and a full North American headlining tour will be announced shortly. Tour dates can be found on the group’s official website www.backstreetboys.com.Over the last 12 years, the Backstreet Boys have sold more than 76 million albums worldwide, have scored a dozen Top 40 hits and charted in the Top Ten in nearly every country making them one of the most successful groups of all time.

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY, PA - Star-power made quite the difference in life of a local hit & run victim. A driver hit Jacki Nieratko 8-weeks ago on Davis Street in Scranton. She suffered brain trauma, a shattered pelvis and was left in a coma. But Saturday she had reason to smile. It’s Saturday afternoon at the John Heinz Institute in Wilkes-Barre and the mood is anything but normal. There's a buzz in the air… It’s all because the backstreet boys are in the building to surprise hit and run victim Jacki Nieratko. Jacki's fiancee Tim Black said, “It’s a dream come true for her. She's a fan of the Backstreet Boys since I've met her. This will help her morale and push her in the right direction so she can fight harder." As the pop stars went into Jacki's room, the only expression that came over her face was shock. “It’s crazy... I can't believe it," said Jacki. After singing to Jacki, the guys signed autographs and her family shared a few jokes. Jacki's had a tough recovery process from the accident and this visit brightened her spirits. She still has rods in her pelvis that have to come out before she can start walking again. Radio station 98.5 KRZ helped get the Backstreet Boys on board after Jacki's life long friend Amber Pacovsky told her story. Amanda & Jeff Walker said, “They were moved by Jackie's story and the fact that her friend since she was five wanted to do something for her." And do something they did, lifting her spirits and helping to focus less on the pain. Pacovsky said, “That tells me that they're real people and that they care and that they care about other people. They don't have a big head / egos because they're famous. That's a fan in there and they care about everybody." You can watch the video of their visit here and/or download it on the Media page.

Following a gorgeous December wedding that took months of planning, Howie Dorough and Leigh Boniello needed to unwind. And what better place to do that than the beautiful white beaches of Antigua? The Backstreet Boy and his new bridge jetted off for a four-day island getaway and had the time of their lives. "The beaches had some of the most amazing white sand we have ever seen," Howie tells OK!. "We would have loved to stay longer." Their favorite part of their romantic honeymoon? "We had an amazing candlelit dinner at the beach," Leigh, 33, recalls. "It was a gift from Howie's brother, Johnny. The resort set up a private gazebo with tons of tropical flowers and candles. We had a chance to enjoy our first dinner as a married couple." As for the future, Howie, 34, and Leigh "definitely" plan on having children, but not yet. "Right now, we want to enjoy traveling and being married," Howie says. Click here for pictures.

It's been ten years since "Quit Playing Games (With My Heart) hit U.S. airwaves, and the faces of a new generation of heartthrobs took over MTV. The music scene changed with the Backstreet Boys leading a pack of "boy bands" into the new millennium. Once again, music has evolved, and album sales continue to decrease. Boy bands are no more, but hip-hop, punk, and country are strong in the game. The only remnants of that past wave of pop is laced over with heavy dance/R&B/Hip-Hop via Justin Timberlake, and Mission: Man Band, a failing reality series of mix-matched has-beens called Sure Shot, is a sure flop. With the dust settling over the years, the Backstreet Boys remain on top of their game still. Since the deflation of pop music in 2002, which is credited to squeaky-clean images gone bad, mixed with the inability to stick together, the Backstreet Boys have managed to keep the ball rolling. "We’ve always stressed quality versus quantity when it comes to our career," Brian Littrell, 32, explains in a recent press conference. "I think that’s what it's attributed to, the music, and the loyal fans that we’ve had, and also the passion that we all have. The Backstreet Boys has never been about one particular guy. It’s always about a team. I think that’s what’s kept us together for this long."

This may not be the case for the Backstreet Boys, who seem to be taking a different, more mature approach to their re-emergence on the music scene. Having made several forays back onto the charts since the five officially split in 2001, the Backstreet Boys are not looking to be the same band they were way back when, for better or for worse. The boys have spent over a year in the studio trying to produce an album that will please their established fan base and appeal to a new audience. This is likely to be a shrewd approach, one made successful by the band Take, one of the first British boy bands who made a comeback this year. If the Backstreet Boys can learn how to target the new demands of its maturing fan base they is likely to be successful. They should take a leaf from artists such as Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake who, having entered the charts as pop sensations, are now on top of their game as ruling R&B hitmakers.

Kevin Richardson disappointed fans when he left The Backstreet Boys. He said he would never return. Kevin dropped by this morning (dressed in a black turtle-neck and black jacket) to talk about his stage roll in Chicago (currently at the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto). Dina pushed him on his "never" statement about returning to the BSB. Well...Kevin revealed that he might be re-thinking things. He says he and his wife are going to be trying to have a baby (they may even start trying here in Toronto---she is coming to join him here). He then says he may consider going back to the Backstreet Boys in the future. "Never say never," he tells Dina.

The Backstreet Boys, now a quartet after the departure of Kevin Richardson, are at work on a new album. That's not the only thing keeping A.J. McLean busy: He's also in the midst of his first solo album. "I've pretty much written everything on the record with these guys, and I've learned a lot about myself through this whole process," he tells AOL Music. Such as? "I've learned that I've got an angry side, a frustrated side, a happy side. I've learned that there was some unfinished business in things that I didn't get to settle with people like my father," he says. "There's a song entitled 'Sincerely Yours,' which is about my father. There are songs about past relationships, things that piss me off and then there are songs that just make you want to get up and dance. It's all real music. It's not like, 'Hey, you have a nice car. Let me see you shake your ass.'" Among the people McLean is writing with on the album is friend Dan Muckala, who wrote the Backstreet hit 'Incomplete.' When Muckala was recently honored at Nashville's Belmont University, McLean got a chance to perform some of the new material live. "We did three of the songs, and it was a great response," he says. "If the college crowd digs it, I'm loving it. Hopefully next year there will be touring, records -- all kinds of stuff."

Backstreet's back ... almost. Backstreet Boys fans will have to wait just a little longer before they can get their hands on the band's new CD, according to A.J. McLean. "The boys and I are finishing up the new record, coming out at the top of the year," McLean revealed to MTV News at the Moto 8 party Thursday night in Hollywood. "We're about three-quarters of the way through. We just got new mixes, we're just kind of going through the top eight [songs] we have right now, and getting the mix [done] properly. But everyone's really stoked about it. The songs are great, man." Additionally, McLean has spent the last six months working on another solo record. "It's a lot of personal stuff," McLean explained. "Like, my relationship with my father that I don't really have. There's a song about him called 'Sincerely Yours.' There's a lot of songs on the record that are just me expressing who I am and letting everyone know I am my own person outside of Backstreet Boys." Whether McLean resurrects his Johnny No Name alter ego remains to be seen.

Brian appeared at Revelation Generation yesterday, but because of the heavy rain he was unable to perform. Nevertheless, some fans got to spend some time with him and he revealed some interesting things about what's going on with him solo-wise and updates us on what's next for BSB:
    - BSB have only recorded 7 songs so far. The new sound will be a mix of Never Gone with their older stuff. (More guitar driven with a Euro dance feel).
    - The BSB club tour is not going ahead. They didn't feel right touring when they don't have a lot of new material to share live.
    - The boys are not worrying too much about not having a bass vocal. Brian said that he, Nick and AJ can all sing bass so they would take it in turns.
    - The boys are meeting in LA again in a week and a half to start recording. Brian is very excited.
    - Brian's next single will be 'Wish.'
    - The single after that might be a slightly faster version of 'Over My Head,' Brian's hoping that it will be released to more mainstream radio.

Lexington native and pop music superstar Brian Littrell will participate in the citywide memorial service Sunday at Rupp Arena for victims of the crash of Comair Flight 5191. Littrell was part of the Backstreet Boys, the chart-topping vocal quintet. Sarah Darnall, an organizer of the memorial who works in Mayor Teresa Isaac's office, says Littrell was "eager to participate." Flight 5191 crashed during takeoff early on the morning of Aug. 27, killing 49 people. Littrell grew up in Lexington and graduated from Tates Creek High School. He now lives in Atlanta with his wife, Leighanne, and their 3-year-old son, Baylee. Earlier this year, Littrell embarked on a solo career in the contemporary Christian music market with his debut album, Welcome Home. Among the album's faith-based tracks was Gone Without Goodbye, a song about people who lost loved ones in tragedy. It opens with a verse about a woman and her daughter-in-law looking for a victim of the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. On Sunday, Littrell will sing toward the end of the service. Darnall said organizers do not know what he will be singing, yet. She did ask that Littrell's fans remember Sunday's event will be a memorial service -- not a place for screaming fans or autograph-seekers. "This is a memorial service for the victims," Darnall said. "It is our time to mourn and grieve. Mr. Littrell wants to be a part of that, but it is not a concert. "Please respect the families of the victims, who will be there."

BACKSTREET BOYS star NICK CARTER insists the pioneering boy band will not be splitting up, despite singer KEVIN RICHARDSON's decision to quit. And the blonde pop pin-up insists Richardson's departure might not be permanent - and he'll always be welcomed back with open arms. He tells MTV News, "All we can do is be supportive in any decisions that any of us make. "We still want to be able to do records and there are fans out there that want to hear our music, and we're going to push on. But the door is always open for him. If he wants to come back to perform again, he can. We respect his decision." Carter also revealed that the next Backstreet Boys album could feature a solo track from each of the four remaining bandmates. He adds, "Times have changed, and we're trying to adapt and trying to get a grip on things. We love what we do, we love the music we've done, and obviously we're still going with it and still moving on."

Following the departure of Kevin Richardson over the weekend, the Backstreet Boys are plowing ahead with sessions for their upcoming album, which member Brian Littrell says they hope to have out later this year. "[The sessions] started yesterday, actually," Littrell said on Monday, less than 48 hours after the group announced that original member Richardson, 33, was leaving to pursue unspecified "other interests" (see "Kevin Richardson Quits Backstreet Boys"). Littrell said he and the group's other members — Howie Dorough, Nick Carter and A.J. McLean — began work on the first two songs for the yet-untitled follow-up to last year's Never Gone. "We're in the process of trying to put this record together for a fourth-quarter release, so we're excited about it." Littrell said the Boys started talking about heading right back into the studio about midway through the Never Gone tour, which ended earlier this year. "The Backstreet Boys audience has been loyal and continued to support us as a group and we're very appreciative of that," he said. "During the middle of the tour we were talking about getting back in the studio and making another record and not having another four-year downtime between CDs. "I was the first one in the studio just yesterday, actually," he continued, "working on Sunday, trying to get my vocals in, because in two days I have to head to Montreal and Toronto and start press and promotion for the Canadian campaign for my solo CD." Littrell issued a Christian-music album, Welcome Home, in early May. Despite his excitement over getting to work on the Boys' seventh album, Littrell said the departure of his cousin Richardson is taking its toll. "Personally, Kevin is my blood," he said. "Kevin got me in the group almost 14 years ago. I'm a little sad to see him leave, and I'm sure some of the fans are a little sad. But I'm very happy for him and very supportive of him personally and businesswise and I hope he's successful in any endeavor that he plans on moving forward with his life." Richardson, 34, hasn't spoken about the other endeavors he wants to pursue outside the multiplatinum group, and Littrell didn't shed much light on what the future holds for his cousin, either. "During the Never Gone tour Kevin had kind of relayed his personal thoughts and his individual aspirations, personally and businesswise, things that he wants to further accomplish in his life," Littrell explained. "And he's the oldest member of the group and he's just at a different place in his life. There is no bad blood whatsoever."

The Backstreet Boys are saying goodbye to the oldest member of their band, according to a statement posted on the group's Web site Saturday. Kevin Richardson, 33, said he was leaving to purse other interests. "It was a very tough decision for me but one that was necessary in order to move on with the next chapter of my life," Richardson said in the statement. The Orlando-based pop band ushered in a new teen-music craze in the late 90's, buoyed by their soulful harmonies, synchronized dance steps, clean-cut good looks and charm. Their three albums sold a total of more than 35 million copies. The group took a hiatus in 2001 after A.J. McLean's highly publicized entry into rehab forced the band to postpone their "Black & Blue" tour. They reunited to release the album "Never Gone" in 2005. The remaining members, McLean, Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, and Brian Littrell, said they had no plans to replace Richardson. "The door will always be open for him to return to the Backstreet Boys. We wish him the all the best in his future endeavors," they said on the band's Web site. The group plans to return to the studio this weekend to begin work on their next album, which is due later this year. Calls and an e-mail sent to the group's publicist, Sonia Muckle, were not immediately returned to The Associated Press on Saturday.

Howie Dorough of the Backstreet Boys was gracious with the press, friendly to the fans on the red carpet, and a polite professional backstage at Much Music Awards 2006. The up-and-comers could learn a lot from this music business veteran. Unlike last year, the Backstreet Boys' Howie D. was not in the running for an award -- nor was he there for anything Backstreet-related. He was escorting someone named George, a new artist apparently co-managed by the Backstreet Boy. That didn't stop the girls' screams for Howie to wave at them, though. "I feel blessed to still be recognized," he said.

The Backstreet Boys plan to record another album this summer. In an interview with andPOP's Sarah Millar, Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell revealed that the boys have been talking about their next album and hope to return the studio as soon as June. "There are tentative plans to be in the studio at the end of June but we're still working on that (and) with material and the direction of the record," Littrell told andPOP. "I've had a few conference calls with everyone talking about the end of June meeting in LA. We do plan to be in the studio probably the majority of July and maybe part of August. We're moving forward together." The Backstreet Boys released "Never Gone" last year, after four years without new material. "The record was recorded amazingly," he said. "We didn't know what to expect coming out with a new album after 13 years (together). But it was just embraced and loved by the fans."

Project follows impact of No. 1 single “In Christ Alone." Brian Littrell, one of pop’s most recognized and bestselling artists, is set to release this spring his debut Christian-market album Welcome Home. In conjunction with Jive Records, the Reunion Records project arrives on the heels of last summer’s No. 1 Christian radio single, Littrell’s remake of “In Christ Alone,” a Dove-nominated track off WOW #1s. The first single from Welcome Home will be its title track, which goes for adds on Friday, March 17. “This has been a dream of mine since I was a little boy singing in church in Lexington, Kentucky,” said Littrell, who grew up singing in various youth choirs at Port Memorial Baptist Church. With Welcome Home, “I hope to encourage people to stand up for what they believe.” Terry Hemmings, President and CEO of Provident Music Group, called Littrell’s signing—three years in the making—“one of the most unique partnerships ever to happen in Christian music.” Hemmings continued, “Throughout the course of making the deal I got to know Brian as a forthright, sincere person of God. This is what Brian was built to do. His enthusiasm for the record just oozes out of him.”
"I’ve been writing Christian music for a long time,” Littrell said, “and now I have the opportunity to share some of those songs with others. I’m a family guy making music for the family. This really is like a dream come true.” Plans are coming together for Littrell to support Welcome Home at select Christian music festivals this summer. Brian Littrell is widely-known as a 13-year member of the legendary pop group Backstreet Boys. He has contributed to worldwide sales in excess of 75 million records and has amassed legions of fans around the globe. Last summer, Backstreet Boys released Never Gone, their first studio album in five years. Brian lives in Atlanta with his wife Leighanne and their three-year-old son Baylee. Littrell will continue to perform with Backstreet Boys and looks forward to sharing his solo album with fans.

Melissa Vickrey loves all the Backstreet Boys, but her favorite member is AJ McLean. Melissa had the chance to meet AJ and the four other members of the group through Kids Wish Network, a nationally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories and improving the quality of life for children. Melissa was born with Vaters Syndrome, which is characterized by a number of serious medical problems including excess fluid on the brain and being prone to seizures. Her cognitive level is that of an 8- or 9- year-old. Melissa is 16 years old and lives in Portage with her parents, Mildred and Ezra Vickrey. Mildred Vickrey's oldest daughter saw an ad in a magazine about the Kids Wish Network and the family submitted Melissa's name and began the application process. Melissa's mother said Melissa had no problem making her wish. "She knew what she wanted and didn't hesitate," Milred Vickrey said. "She loves the Backstreet Boys and couldn't wait to meet them." Melissa and her family stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel Chicago and went to the Chicago Theater to see the Backstreet Boys in concert. Before the concert began Melissa was able to meet and greet the band. The five members of the group not only presented her with gifts but spent time chatting and taking pictures with her. Melissa's mom said she was absolutely thrilled. "She was just so tickled," Mildred Vickrey said. "And AJ is her absolute favorite. She was so wrapped up in him." Vickrey said the guys spent quite a bit of time with Melissa and were sweet to her. Since she has returned home, Melissa constantly shows pictures of her trip to friends and family and keeps the CD the group made for her with her at all times. Mildred Vickrey said the family is so grateful to Kids Wish Network and its wish coordinator Madeline Robinson. "When she was a baby we weren't given much hope that she would even walk, but we spent a lot of time with her and have taken so much care with her," Mildred said. "She is definitely a people person and has come a long way. She will remember this trip forever." If someone knows a child between the ages of 3 and 18 who may be in need of its wish granting service, call (888) 918-9004.

When you get married, the feeling changes, it's not the same as when you're just her boyfriend; so to me it's important to find the way of not falling in monotony, I like surprising her with trips.

The heady pinnacle of the teen-pop explosion five years ago casts a long shadow in the pop world. 'N Sync, though long gone from the charts and arena stages, still holds the record for combined concert and album sales revenue since Calendar began compiling the list in 1997. N Sync racked up a whopping $212.9 million in 2000 and finished in the Ultimate Top 10 for four consecutive years, taking No. 1 honors twice. So it's no surprise that the youth-pop sensation has generated the most money on that list over its nine-year existence: $529.6 million. Additionally, 'N Sync's peers landed two more spots on the overall Top 10 list. At No. 2: Backstreet Boys, with $520.5 million. Neither the group's 2005 reunion tour nor its album ("Never Gone") made a big impression on year-end rankings, but they added enough to the group's 1998-2001 take to push it ahead of Céline Dion for runner-up honors. Dion's $517.3 million makes her the only other act to crack $500 million. The rest of the Ultimate Top 10 finishers through the years: Dave Matthews Band ($408.5 million), U2 ($376.4 million), the Rolling Stones ($375.4 million), Britney Spears ($346.7 million), Eminem ($333.2 million), the Dixie Chicks ($283.6 million) and Shania Twain ($282.8 million).

APRIL - Rehabilitation continued as a theme in April - Billy Joel finished a stint in a treatment centre for alcohol dependency and declared himself fit and healthy. Meanwhile, Aaron Carter's mother begged him to check into rehab to kick his drug problems. April proved to be a trying time for the Carter family because Backstreet Boys singer Nick pleaded not guilty to two drink driving charges on 13 April and had his license revoked.
